MS society sets close respite care centers

The MS Society has announced that the Brambles Respite Care Centre in Horley, Surrey, and Helen Ley Care Centre in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, are both set to close within the next few months.

Last month they announced that negotiations with MS Respite & Care Services Ltd to transfer the two centres had unfortunately ended. Since then, he Society have received no viable offers to take over the running of the care centres leading to the decision to close.

Stuart Nixon, Acting Chair of the MS Society, said: “This is not the outcome any of us wanted and we know it will come as upsetting news to those affected.

“We did everything possible to try to reach an agreement to transfer the centres to an alternative provider, but no viable options could be found.

“We will now do all we can to support residents, guests and staff through this difficult time. I would like to acknowledge the commitment and dedication of the centres’ staff to providing high quality care throughout this period of uncertainty.”

Brambles will close at the end of November and Helen Ley will shut at the end of January.

The Society said "While we’re making arrangements to close the centres, we remain open to considering any viable offers from potential providers that may come forward in the meantime."

Earlier this year Leuchie House respite care service in Scotland, was successfully transferred to a new provider. Contracts are also expected to be exchanged soon to transfer Woodlands, the care centre in York, to a new provider.
