How to Cope with Stress.

Bills pilling up, time running out, phone ringing, you are on the verge of just going plain insane, am I right?

You might think that stress is there everyday and all day, you might be right to a certain extent but it is up to you to define that as stress or just something else you have to solve before moving on. So what I am trying to say here is that YOU control stress not vise versa and by learning that you will see a big difference in yourself and so will others.

Now let's get down to business!

Stress happens to everyone, even to the calmest person alive, trust me you can consider me one the "calmest person alive" although you think you know them enough to say "Wow, that person is calm.", well you are wrong on that one my friend, even Bill Gates has stress in his life.

So you are probably saying "Just tell us how to deal with stress already!". Alright, well one thing you need find out before we start talking about "How to Cope with Stress" is what causes you to become stressed, so think about that while you read "Identifying Stress Source".

Identifying Stress Source

Stress managent start with identifying your stress source and understanding why you got stressed in the first place. This may sound easy, if you think it is try thinking that one again. Stress can come from doing to many things at once or as one will say "I just have a million things to do right now", or you always think that you are stressed since the environment around you is stressful or at least you think of it as stressful.

There are plenty of stress sources out there, you just have to find the one that causes you to get stressed and work on finding ways to cope with the stress or just let it go in through one ear and come out the other.

How to Cope with Stress

There is a right way and a wrong to cope with stress, and as usual the wrong is the easiest way to deal with stress and most likely the worse. So ask yourself how do I cope with stress?

Here is how NOT to manage with stress:

  • Smoking
  • Drinking
  • Unleashing your stress at someone else
  • Taking medication or drugs to relax
  • Eating excessively or under eating
  • Filling up your whole day to avoid stress
  • Over sleeping
  • Procrastinating

This is what most of the people with a lot of stress in their lives refer to, but I am sure you want to learn how to manage stress the healthy way, right? No? Too bad you are going to learn it anyway!

Well there is no specific way to manage stress the "healthy way", let's just put it this way, anyway is healthier than what I listed above. However, we do have strategies!

Strategies to Manage Stress

The most important way to stay calm and not be stressed is to learn to say "no" meaning that you are taking control of the situation and what ever the person is throwing at you, you are able to answer with a statement.

Don't hold stuff in, let it out! Pop that ballon of stress and share what you are thinking. That being said you need to be able to compromise with the person instead holding a grudge ( *if you are religious* God states that he will forgive us for our sins if we forgive those who sinned against us).

If trying to compromise with or to change the stressor fails, still holding a grudge is not the answer, but let your body adapt to the stressful situation to the point that it is no longer stressful and you can deal with that stress daily.

If all else fails accept the things you can't change, which might be difficult for some but not for all. Remember always look for the upside and stop trying to change the unchangeable, it is almost like changing concrete to liquid...unchangeable!

Learn to forgive, this is the second most important thing on how to manage your stress is to learn to forgive others, and accept the fact that we live in an imperfect world and that people make mistakes, just like you do.

Last but not least, live a happy lifestyle. Exercise daily and frequently this will not only get your mind of things but it will also make you happier and healthier. This still applies: Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs.
